Job Retention Scheme 15th July updates

The HMRC have added further updates to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) on Thursday 15th July 2021.

The main changes are removal of claim periods ending on or before 30th June 2021, details of the new August taper added to the callout boxes and other parts of the guidance, the addition of taper examples for both July and August and the removal of the statutory leave column from the bulk claim templates.

From 1st August 2021, the government will pay 60% of wages for furlough employees up to £1,875. From 1st July 2021, employers will top up employees’ wages to make sure they receive 80% of wages (up to £2,500).

Examples have been added for working out how much of the minimum furlough pay you can claim for July 2021 and for August 2021. One example has been added to the full examples.

  1. I have a tenant who alleges she was furloughed. Pleases advise how this can be checked as she owes me a considerable amount of money.

    1. If they were furloughed then they have continued to receive at least 80% of their pay funded by the government. They should continue paying rent out of that income. However, during the pandemic there have also been protections put in place for tenants, in effect stopping evictions for certain periods of time. What is it you are wanting to check?
