Ready, steady, 100 days till the Self Assessment deadline

HMRC have issued a reminder to those who are required to submit a self assessment tax return.

Dear @PAYadvice,

There are just 100 days left to complete your tax return ahead of the 31‌‌‌ ‌January 2021 deadline.

We know that this is a difficult time for everyone, but HMRC are here to help and support customers every step of the way.

If you’ve already completed your return and also paid or set up payment arrangements, thank you. You don’t need to do anything else.

You can complete your 2019-20 tax return at any time up to the deadline but we recommend completing it early to avoid the last-minute rush. And if you complete your tax return online you’ll get an immediate calculation of any tax owed.

Any customer who has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic or needs help to spread the cost of their tax bill can arrange a payment plan with HMRC. Visit GOV.UK to find out more about the service and check if you are eligible.

For customers completing a paper tax return, you have until 31‌‌‌ ‌October 2020 to send your completed paperwork to HMRC.

A word about scams

We are aware of an increase in scam emails, calls and texts. If someone gets in touch claiming to be from HMRC, saying that financial help can be claimed or that a tax refund is owed and asks you to click on a link or to give information such as your name, credit card or bank details, please do not respond. You can forward suspicious emails claiming to be from HMRC to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk and texts to 60599.

Yours sincerely

Karl Khan sig
