Monday 14th October, the queen announces government proposals under ‘The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Bill‘ to ensure that tips are paid in full or distributed fairly ‘to those who work hard to earn them’ this will cover England, Wales and Scotland.
It is estimated that around a million pub, restaurant and hotel workers will benefit.
Employers currently follow a voluntary none legally binding code with regards to the payment of tips.
In 2018 some big chain names were criticised for holding back a proportion of tips. This new law will see all the tips, gratuities and service charges passed on to relevant workers in full.
