The House of Commons Public Bill committee have proposed an amendment to the emergency Coronavirus Bill.
If passed then we may see the introduction of ‘Statutory Self Employment Pay’.

This would potentially provide payments of 80% of average monthly net earnings subject to a £2,917 £2,500 ceiling (amended to match employment).
The potential beneficiaries being self employed and freelancers.
Would this apply to off payroll workers of IR35, that may be questionable as some will be employees under their own Personal Service Company and so potentially covered by other Job Protection measures?
We will have to wait and see whether the amendment passes are what other measures of protection are introduced for the self-employed.
UPDATE
The original proposed amendment has itself been amended to reduce the ceiling to £2,500 per month.
The amendment was not part of the final approved bill, however, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak is expected to make an announcement on Thursday 26th March 2020.
Measures have been introduced to assist the self-employed.
