HMRC are starting to contact the self-employed who are likely to be eligible for SEISS. The contact is via a combination of emails, SMS texts and letters, to tell you what to do to get ready to claim.
Applications are opening in tranches based on you unique taxpayer number (UTR) which is given to all self-employed taxpayers. If qualifying you will be given a date when you can use the new online claim service which will commence from Wednesday 13th May 2020.
You can use an HMRC online tool now to find out if you’re eligible. Your tax agent or adviser may also be able to use the online tool on your behalf.
You need your:
- Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number – if you do not have this find out how to get your lost number
- National Insurance number – if you do not have this find out how to get your lost National Insurance number
