How to claim

The online service is available from 13 May 2020. If eligible, HMRC will tell you the date you can make your claim. If your claim is approved you’ll receive your payment within 6 working days. If unable to claim online an alternative will be available.


If you receive texts, calls or emails claiming to be from HMRC, offering financial help or a tax refund and asking you to click on a link or to give personal information, it is a scam – email it to and delete it.

When you make your claim

You need:

  • Self Assessment UTR
  • National Insurance number
  • Government Gateway user ID and password
  • bank account number and sort code to pay the grant into
Find a lost UTR number

Find a lost National Insurance number

You do have to confirm that your business has been adversely affected by coronavirus.

After you’ve claimed

Once submitted you are informed straight away if approved and it will be paid within 6 working days.
