According to an HMRC promotion, they have acknowledged that over two million new employees who started a new job in 2022 were placed into the wrong tax code!
They urge employers to obtain a P45 or a completed and correct starter checklist in time and ready to operate in the first payment of wages.
Failure to collect starter information is a failing of obligations by the employer and leads to difficulties for the employee, HM Revenue and Customs, and the employer who ends up with a disgruntled employee and having to assist with resource and effort to resolve.
HMRC state that “In just a few clicks, you can find the correct starter declaration and tax code for your new employees by using our starter checklist”.
Complete the digital checklist today and help your new starter get on the right pay 💷
