Furlough option closing to new cases #COVID19 #coronavirus

As part of the #coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which sees the government paying 80% of furloughed workers regular wages where they agree to not work for 21 days, it is important to note that the scheme will close to new entrants from 30‌‌th June. From this point onwards, employers will only be able to furlough employees for a full three-week (21 day) period prior to 30‌‌th June.

This means that the final date that you can start furlough for an employee for the first time will be 10‌‌th June for the current three-week furlough period to be completed by 30‌‌th June. Employers will have until 31‌‌st July to make any claims in respect of the period to 30‌‌ June.

Employers will need to ensure that any claim from 1st March through 30th June has been made by the 31st July grant claim deadline
