Tier review results in additional 50,000 business closures

A number of areas will move into higher tiers from 00:01 on Saturday 26th December. The government has decided to act ahead of the formal review point, to contain the spread of the new strain of #COVID19.

It is thought that an additional 50,000 business will be required to close until further tier reviews allow continuance. More employees will be facing continued furlough arrangements, or cut hours or even facing lay-offs and threats of redundancy.

Predictive calculation of pay and Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme May need to be revised.

Hospitality will be hit with restriction being applied. Government guidance for hospitality venues welcoming customers over Christmas started:

  • Tier 1 – rule of 6 in and out.
  • Tier 2 – indoor bookings for the same household or support bubble only, not Christmas bubbles. Rule of 6 outdoors.
  • Tier 3 & 4 – delivery or take away only.
